RESEARCH ASSISTANT

This is an opportunity to join an early-stage, fast-growing non-profit with significant professional growth opportunities. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with the M&E Manager and other Optional staff to conduct qualitative and quantitative research across Health care facilities in mentioned regions and it will involve clients, Health care workers and other relevant stakeholders. This work is being conducted to understand how the program is operating in order to improve it.

The Role

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct qualitative interviews with clients, healthcare workers and local government officials
  • Gather quantitative data from various sources including healthcare facilities and local government offices
  • Write-up findings and input data into data collection tools
  • Support M&E manager to generate insights about how the program can be improved
  • Representing Afya Pamoja and its project partners in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Skills and Experience

  • College Diploma/degree in Public Health, Education, Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Psychology, Development, Humanities, Statistics, or related fields with proven experience collecting and reporting reliable data for development or research projects.
  • Prior experience working with healthcare workers and/or in primary healthcare facilities and/or in local government settings strongly preferred
  • Comfortable undertaking quantitative (e.g., basic surveys) and qualitative (e.g., focus groups) research programs. Able to communicate key takeaways.
  • Clear in both verbal and written communication forming opinions and justifications.
  • Confident in giving public presentations and holding the attention of an audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with individuals from a range of backgrounds (e.g., community leaders, healthcare workers, government officials)
  • Proactively manages time and works efficiently setting priorities and personal deadlines for tasks.
  • Close attention to detail. Follows up on specific tasks without requiring prompts or intense oversight from manager
  • Prior experience using tablets or other electronic devices in data entering.
  • Prior experience using ODK or KoBoToolbox would be an added advantage.
  • Competent working in the MS Office suite including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Fluent in English and Swahili (local language of a mentioned regions is an advantage)
